What Money Camp Are You In?

Here is what I know, most individuals are in two camps when it comes to their money:  Thriving or Surviving.

Do you know which camp you are in?   If you aren’t sure, let’s break it down.

THRIVING: In this space you:

  • Know where your money is going

  • Feel confident about your money decisions and you like managing your money

  • Know how to get back on track when you have a money blip or setback

  • Are okay breaking some rules, because you have full knowledge of what you are doing

  • You have a plan and are making progress on it.  That might be a savings goal or paying off debt

YOU CAN BE THRIVING IN YOUR MONEY GAME AND STILL HAVE DEBT MY FRIEND!

SURVIVING: In this space you:

  • Feel anxiety about your money on a daily basis.  When you hear “money” it stresses you out

  • You aren’t sure where your money is going. In fact, you feel you should have more in the bank but it's pullin' a Houdini

  • You don’t feel confident to make decisions about your money

  • You aren’t sure what rules to break because you don't know the rules

  • You’ve tried budgeting before, but you couldn’t stick to it and so you stopped

YOU CAN BE SURVIVING IN YOUR MONEY GAME AND NOT HAVE ANY DEBT.

The one camp that isn’t talked about enough is the space between Thriving and Surviving: Purposeful Progress.

What does Purposeful Progress look like?

  • You are working daily on your mindset around money. It’s not perfect and that’s okay

  • You still have some questions, but for the most part you feel you are gaining confidence in your money game and actions

  • You are tracking your expenses and getting closer to a budget that feels good, flexible and is serving you

  • You know the areas of your spending that need your focus and you are taking action

  • When you are managing your money and interacting with it, you are feeling moments of joy and excitement

This space, the Purposeful Progress should be celebrated because it’s the work, and the journey. We too often focus on the before and after and not on the “in it”...ya know?
