Avoiding Money? Here’s Why and How to Change It.

If you’ve been telling yourself “I’ll start my budget when…”  or “I’m going to try to learn how to do this on my own one more time,...” - consider this your money wake-up call friend. There is a reason we worry about money and I’m gonna break it down for ya.

Worry, with most things in life is because of...not knowing.

Think about it. When you feel worried in your life, is it because you know the outcome? Is it because you feel calm and at peace with whatever unfolds?

Nope.

It’s because you don’t feel those things, yeah?

We worry about our money because we don’t:

  • Feel confident we know where it is

  • Trust that we will be able to figure it out

  • Believe it is there to support us

Guess what sweet soul? You are experiencing the above because you might be in avoidance and avoiding your money is not going to get you to a place of knowing.

When we are feeling good things about our money like:

  • Knowing that money is there to support you

  • Money feels good. It doesn’t feel stressful

  • We know we always figure it out

Those feelings are because you know your money.  So what do I mean when I say “knowing” your money? I mean:

  • You know how much money comes in and how much money goes out

  • You know your money story and are rewriting it

  • You know your values for life and how your money supports them

  • You know what your numbers are: debt, savings etc.

  • You know your life vision

This is all about the practical and the magical and the chicken and the egg.  In order to feel those things, we need to know our money, but because we don’t feel those things, we don’t want to know our money

HOLY CONUNDRUM!

In conclusion…don’t worry - Start here:

  1. Start with your money story. How did you learn about money? What words were used? What emotions were prevalent?

  2. How do you currently talk about money? How do you feel about money?

  3. What parts of your past are influencing your current money game?  Which ones are you committed to shifting?  Once you know that, rewrite your story.

Believe it or not, this exercise can be life changing and it can be just the right amount of “ah-ha” to help you move into getting to know your money.
